My Stanley saved my life

Twenty five years ago in the middle of a raging blizzard in the plains of Colorado, being young and reckless, I attempted to bash through a snow drift with my 74 Chevy four wheel drive pickup. The truck was chained up and we made it perhaps 50 yards into the drift. No shovel, no winch, (or anything to attach a cable to if we had one) it began to look pretty hopeless. Not one thing in sight and miles from a traveled road. In desperation we wired the bottle jack for the truck on the chains of one front wheel and wired my Stanley thermos on the other. Man, that jack and thermos made a racket banging on the wheel wells. We were two happy kids pouring coffee out of that thermos and looking at the drift we just backed out of. The job tore the handle off and added some character to that thermos. I made another handle out of rope and used it for years afterwards.
