Stanley saves the day
In February of 1973 A freak ice storm shut down the city with a coat of about 1/2 of ice on everything. The Police and Fire departments had to go out in it and we quickly found that the police crushers with a mechanical siren on the roof with the light bar was covered in ice and would not work. We were in a two man unit and we went to a local hardware store and bought a 1 quart Aladdin bottle. The store owner was nice enough to run a pot of hot water through his coffee maker and for the remainder of the shift we would pour 1/2 cup through the siren to keep it operational. Later we took our vacuum bottle from that day on an extradition that lasted three days. On return my pardner did not think the bottle was that good and burned his mouth on the three day old coffee. that bottle had quite a reputation and later
it grew feet as some one stole it. We immediately replaced it and kept an eye out for our original.
