Thermostat for Coffee
About 40 years ago, my dad and uncle, who both came from Italy, were fixing a sink. We were at the hardware store for some parts when my uncle told my dad to wait. “I need to get a new thermostat. The old one broke,” my uncle said.
My uncle asked a clerk where the thermostats were and he pointed us to an aisle. My uncle looks at them and says those aren't the thermostats he wanted. A few hours later, we had to go back to the store to get a new trap and dad said lets go to Heck's because they may have thermostats.
My uncle asked a clerk where the thermostats were and the clerk said if they had any thermostats, they would be in hardware. My uncle couldn't find them. Dad finally asked my uncle what kind of thermostat he wanted. “For my coffee,” my uncle said. Dad said something in Italian, my uncle replied in Italian, and we walked over to housewares where dad picked up a Stanley thermos and told my uncle, “This is the kind of thermostat you need for coffee.”
