In recent weeks there’s been renewed concern over who and what to believe over the safety of reusable food and beverage containers, specifically around the presence of Bisphenol-A (BPA) in many of these products.

We know it’s confusing and bet you’re frustrated. We are too. For that reason, we’re taking a moment to clarify what’s in our products and to reaffirm our ongoing commitment to be honest with you, so you can make informed decisions.

WHAT'S IN OUR PRODUCTS

Stainless steel

The majority of our products (75% of our entire line) are made from stainless steel and because stainless steel is rust-proof, odorless and tasteless, it doesn’t require a liner and has never contained BPA. It never has and never will.

All of our stainless steel is made from food-grade stainless steel. We use 18/8 stainless steel, also known as grade 304 on all food-contact stainless steel. We’ve been working with stainless steel for nearly 100 years. Having nearly a century’s worth of experience you can trust that our stainless steel is safe, durable and built to last. We have generations of fans to prove it.

Plastic

For the remaining 25% of our line, we now use one of three plastics, all of which naturally do not contain Bisphenol-A and are thus BPA-Free. They are:

  • Eastman Tritan™ copolyester plastic
  • Polypropylene
  • eCycle recycled polypropylene

Last year when concerns were first raised about BPA, a small portion of our product assortment was plastic. So we took proactive measures and were one of the first to launch BPA-free solutions in our plastic products, ensuring you had options that fit your life. Today, we’re proud to say that all of our new and existing Stanley products are manufactured with BPA-free materials on all food-contact surfaces.

While all existing plastic products are now manufactured with BPA-free materials, we do still have two polycarbonate products that you may still find on retail shelves. Polycarbonate is the plastic containing Bisphenol-A. We are working to phase out of these items, but in the mean time, it’s possible you may still see a polycarbonate product in your store with the Stanley name on it. These specific items are the Outdoor Camp/Mug Bowl 20oz, The Classic Outdoor Camp/ Mug Bowl 32oz and possibly a handful of other discontinued items. Both the Camp/Mug bowls are now being manufactured with BPA-Free Eastman Tritan™ copolyester plastic and they will state that they are BPA-free on the packaging.

HOW WILL YOU KNOW WHAT IS BPA-FREE?

When you are shopping you will know which products are BPA-Free because all of our packaging clearly states the materials included in our products. If they are stainless steel they are already, naturally BPA-Free – so we don’t call this out on most packaging. If they are plastic they include an additional call-out noting that they are indeed BPA-Free.

Online our web site features BPA-Free icons on all products that are BPA-Free, which at this time, is 100% of our online collection.
